Maintenance and filter press tips to increase the life of the machine

Filter press is one of the important equipment in many industries for separating solid particles from liquids and dewatering sludge and solid materials. The correct operation of this device can have a direct effect on the quality of the purification process, the amount of dewatering, the speed of operation and the efficiency of the complex. For this reason, filter press maintenance should be considered as an integral part of industrial equipment maintenance program.

Filter press in different working conditions may be under pressure, moisture, chemicals, abrasive particles and continuous use. If periodical services and technical inspections are not performed properly, the possibility of reduced efficiency, wear of parts and sudden stoppage of the device increases.

Principal implementation of repair and maintenance of filter press besides preventing sudden breakdowns, it can help to increase the lifespan of parts and maintain the performance of the device. Collections such as Parsiyan filter press are also in the field of equipment and solutions related to filter press, which are of interest to various industries.

What is a filter press and how does it work?

Filter press is an industrial device for separating solid phase from liquid. Using a set of filtration plates and cloths, this device traps the solids in the slurry and allows the liquid part to pass through.

Slurry enters the machine from a certain path and is placed under pressure between the plates. The liquid passes through the filter cloth, while the solid particles remain on the surface of the cloth. As the process continues, a layer of solid material is formed, which is called filter cake.

The proper performance of this process depends on various factors such as working pressure, type of fabric, quality of sheets, characteristics of slurry and pump conditions. For this reason, repair and maintenance of the filter press should include all the components of the machine.

The importance of filter press maintenance

Every industrial device undergoes depreciation due to continuous operation. Filter press is no exception to this rule. Long-term use, working pressures, contact with chemicals and the entry of various particles can eventually cause parts of the device to wear out.

Performing regular filter press maintenance can detect small problems before they turn into serious breakdowns. For example, a minor leak in the early stages may be fixed by replacing or adjusting a part; But neglecting it can cause damage to other parts of the device.

Principal maintenance also allows planning for equipment service and will prevent sudden stoppages of the production line.

The most important maintenance goals of the filter press

A proper filter press maintenance program is usually done with a few main goals. The first goal is to maintain the optimal performance of the device and prevent loss of efficiency.

One of the most important goals of filter press maintenance is the following:

• Preventing the sudden failure of the device
• Early identification of worn parts
• Maintaining the quality of the filtration process
• Reducing the leakage at the place of the plates
• Increasing the life of the filter cloths
• Maintaining the performance of the hydraulic system
• Preventing damage to the plates
• Reducing the downtime of the device
• Increasing safety during work
• Maintaining the efficiency of the process Dewatering

Daily inspection of filter press

One of the most important parts of filter press repair and maintenance is daily inspections. The machine operator must check the general condition of the equipment before starting work.

Inspection of leaks, condition of plates, conditions of fabrics, pump performance, hydraulic system and material entry and exit routes can be effective in identifying possible problems.

Any abnormal noise, excessive vibration, pressure drop, leakage or sudden change in filter cake quality should be taken seriously.

Recording the results of daily inspections can also help identify failure patterns. When device performance information is regularly recorded, experts can better investigate performance changes.

Checking the press filter pages

Pages are one of the most important components of filter press. These plates are under pressure during the filtration process, and any damage to them can affect the performance of the device.

In the repair and maintenance process of the filter press, the plates should be checked for cracks, breaks, warping and surface damage.

A damaged screen may cause slurry leakage and reduce filtration quality. Also, continuing to work with a defective screen can damage the filter fabric or other screens.

Therefore, regular inspection of the plates should be part of the machine service program.

Maintenance of filter cloth

Filter cloth is one of the consumable and very important parts in the function of the filter press. The quality and conditions of the fabric can affect the amount of solids separation and the quality of the filter cake.

Fabrics may become cramped, torn, worn or deformed over time. Using the wrong fabric or continuing to work with damaged fabric can reduce the efficiency of the machine.

In the filter press repair and maintenance program, the condition of the fabrics should be checked regularly. Correct cleaning of the fabric is also very important and the washing method should be chosen according to the fabric and the type of filtration material.

Proper cleaning of filter cloths

One of the important steps in filter press maintenance is proper cleaning of fabrics. Accumulation of particles on the fabric surface can block its pores and reduce the passage of liquid.

If the cloth is not cleaned in time, the filtration time will increase and the water quality may decrease.

Cleaning should be done with the right method and using inappropriate pressure or chemicals can damage the texture of the fabric.

For this reason, in the repair and maintenance of the filter press, the instructions related to the type of fabric and the type of contamination should be followed.

Checking the hydraulic system of the filter press

In many filter presses, the hydraulic system is responsible for creating and maintaining the pressure necessary to close the plates. Improper operation of this system can reduce the pressure or open the plates.

Oil level, condition of connections, hoses, leaks and hydraulic pump operation should be checked periodically.

Any oil leakage or pressure drop can be a sign of a problem in the system and should be checked by a professional.

Regular control of the hydraulic system is one of the important parts of repair and maintenance of the filter press.

Checking the feeding pump of the filter press

The feeding pump is responsible for transferring the slurry into the filter press. Improper pump selection or improper operation can affect the filtration process.

Increasing vibration, unusual noise, drop in flow or change in pressure can be a sign of a problem in the pump.

Periodic inspection of the condition of the pump, connections and material transfer paths should be included in the maintenance program. Also, the pump should be suitable for the process conditions and the characteristics of the selected slurry.

The importance of working pressure control

Pressure is one of the key factors in filter press performance. Too much or too little pressure can affect the filtration process.

Abnormal pressure increase may be caused by track blockage, fabric problem or change in slurry properties. On the other hand, low pressure can reduce the quality of water extraction.

In the repair and maintenance of the filter press, the pressure of the device should be checked regularly and its abnormal changes should be checked.

Check for leaks in the filter press

Leakage is one of the common problems in filter press. Leakage may occur from the junction of plates, filter cloths, valves or fittings.

If a leak is observed, its main cause must be determined. Sometimes the leakage is caused by incorrect placement of the fabric, and in other cases, the plate or gasket may be damaged.

Ignoring the leakage can cause pollution of the work environment, reduce efficiency and increase the pressure on other components of the device.

Therefore, detecting and fixing leakage is one of the priorities of press filter repair and maintenance.

The importance of the alignment of the pages

The correct positioning of the plates is very important in the function of the filter press. The pages must be placed in their path and have proper alignment.

The lack of alignment of the plates may cause leakage or inappropriate pressure in parts of the device.

When servicing the device, the condition of the pages and their placement should be checked. Any deformation or mechanical damage should also be considered.

Maintenance of sealing system

The sealing system of the filter press is responsible for preventing the exit of the slurry from between the plates. Fabric, gasket and other sealing parts must be in good condition.

Wearing of seals can cause leakage and reduce the quality of the process.

In the repair and maintenance program of the filter press, the sealing condition should be periodically checked and worn parts should be replaced at the right time.

The effect of the type of slurry on the depreciation of the device

The type of material input to the filter press can have a significant effect on the depreciation of the device. Materials with abrasive particles or special chemical compounds may increase the erosion of some parts.

For this reason, the maintenance program should be designed according to the type of process.

The more difficult the machine's working conditions, the more important regular inspections become. Knowing the characteristics of the grout can help to choose the right fabric, plates and other parts.

Prevent clogging of transmission paths

Clogging of the slurry transfer path can increase the pressure and decrease the input flow to the filter press. This problem may be caused by the accumulation of particles or a change in the properties of the material.

Checking the transfer paths and their periodic cleaning can prevent clogging.

In case of a sudden decrease in flow, the pump performance should not be checked; The transmission path and input of the device must also be evaluated.

The role of the operator in maintaining the filter press

The operator plays an important role in the repair and maintenance of the filter press. Many early problems can be identified by observing changes in device performance.

The operator should be familiar with warning signs such as abnormal noise, increased vibration, pressure drop, leakage or change in filter cake quality.

Proper operator training can prevent many operational mistakes. It is also very important to follow the safety instructions when working with the device.

In addition to daily inspections, the filter press also requires periodic servicing. In these services, the various components of the device are checked more carefully.

Hydraulic system, plates, cloths, fittings, valves, pump and mechanical parts should be checked according to the specified schedule.

The number of service times depends on the operation of the device, the type of input materials and environmental conditions.

A regular filter press repair and maintenance program should be adjusted according to the actual operating conditions of the machine.

One of the common mistakes in maintaining industrial equipment is to continue working with parts that show signs of wear.

Sometimes a small part can cause additional pressure on other parts of the device. As a result, timely replacement or repair of the part can prevent more widespread failures.

Any piece that is out of proper working conditions should be checked by an expert and it is very important in the model and working conditions of the filter press. Inappropriate parts may be repaired or replaced if needed.

Use the right parts

Using parts suitable for the model and working conditions of the filter press is very important. The wrong part may not be compatible with the device in terms of dimensions, material or resistance.

This issue is especially important in parts such as filter fabric, plates, seals and hydraulic components.

In the process of repairing and maintaining the filter press, the specifications of the replacement parts must match the needs of the machine.

By checking these records, it is possible to identify the parts that are most likely to wear out and to better determine the right time for service.

Logging information also helps experts find the cause of some recurring failures faster.

Preventive maintenance of filter press

Preventive maintenance refers to actions that are taken before a serious failure occurs. This method is very important in industrial equipment; Because the sudden stop of the device may disrupt the production or purification process.

In preventive maintenance, the various components of the machine are checked at certain intervals and the parts that are close to the end of their working life are taken care of before they fail completely.

This approach is considered one of the most effective parts of repair and maintenance of the filter press.

The importance of following safety principles when repairing the filter press

Any repair or service of the filter press must be done in compliance with safety principles. Before repair, the device should be placed in a safe condition and the remaining pressures in the system should be controlled.

Working with the hydraulic system and components under pressure requires sufficient knowledge and experience. Therefore, specialized repairs are better done by trained people.

Observing safety not only protects employees, but also reduces the possibility of damage to the machine.

Planning to increase the efficiency of the filter press

Proper maintenance is not only to prevent breakdowns; It can also help to maintain the productivity of the device. A machine that has healthy fabrics, suitable plates, correct working pressure and a healthy hydraulic system can have a more regular operation.

Continuously checking the performance of the device and comparing the results with normal conditions, allows early detection of efficiency loss.
